Tricity Lights ~ Fishing Holes

Fishing Holes

In 1994 the Grand River and its major tributaries achieved the coveted status of Canadian Heritage River. Due in large part to the successful efforts of many partners, the Grand is also considered a world class fishery.  The Grand River flows through an impressive limestone canyon known as the Elora Gorge.   The river, from below the Belwood dam to the Gorge, was stocked years ago with Brown Trout.  This sustainable fishery is now world class with people coming from around the world to fly fish for browns.

Glen Morris

The stretch of the Grand that runs between Cambridge and Brantford offers up some of the best fishing for river small smouths in Ontario.   Breath taking scenery and lots of wildlife adorn the banks.

Elora

Deep gorges, boiling rapids and aggressive brown trout in the waters surrounding this quaint community make Elora one of Canada's most dramatic fishing destinations.
The Grand River rewards anglers from all over the world with spectacular vistas along the 22-metre-deep gorge, wide stretches of calm water beyond the canyon, and most important of all a chance to catch big trout.  One of the premier destinations in the world for brown trout is only 30 minutes away.

The Conestogo River

On Conestogo Lake below the dam the Conestogo river winds through farmland and Mennonite communities and has plenty of smallmouth bass, pike and catfish to keep anglers lines tight.  The occasional walleye are also found, should you catch one be sure to release and inform The Grand River Conservation Authority of your catch.
