Tricity Lights ~ Swimming Spots

Waterloo Memorial Recreation Complex
The Complex offers an Olympic-size ice surface, indoor running track, swimming pool, meeting rooms, and banquet hall, all under one roof.  Families and kids just love the spring diving boards, available at all different heights, for those junior wannabe divers.  The huge waterslide is definately a favourite, and the little wee ones enjoy a warm wading pool just perfect to keep their little bodies warm while enjoying a swim with mom and dad.  "The Rec Centre" is definately a local swimming hole favourite.

The Lions Lagoon

The Lions Lagoon is a great way to anchor a complete day in Waterloo Park. This water attraction involves time delayed and interactive splash providing a great alternative to pool side activity.  Picnic tables and chair seating is available for parents, and the lagoon is fenced in for added saftey.  Gallons of fun for the young & the young at heart, the Lions Lagoon is an exciting way to beat the summer heat!  Come stand beneath the moonlit waterfalls, face the water-breathing dragon, or walk amongst the trees of the rain forest. Ground sprays and water cannons add blasts of refreshment and leave the kids just in giggles!

Kiwanis Park
kiwanis park.jpg Whether you’re looking for a shady place to read a book, a fun place to take a day care group, the family, or to host a corporate picnic, there are plenty of wide open spaces to enjoy.  The community has enjoyed many years at Kiwanis Park and it keeps getting better!  In 1959 A.R. Kaufman, a long time member of the City of Kitchener Planning Board, suggested our Kiwanis Club become involved in developing a public park on 130 acres available along the Grand River in Bridgeport.  A landscape architect designed a park layout and the land was leveled. Over the next few years our members and their families picked up and removed stones and seeded the land.

The government supplied more than 1,000 trees which our members planted. Then a decent road into the park was built, picnic tables and a shelter were added, along with bbq pits. A well was dug to supply fresh drinking water. The parking lot was laid out and horseshoe pits and swings were installed.  In 1965 the club decided to create a swimming lake as a project for the 1967 centennial year. The idea came from the Grand River Conservation Authority. The city Parks and Recreation Committee approved the project and financial arrangements. A two-acre asphalt-lined swimming lake was created. A well was dug and it delivered 100 gallons of water per minute to supply the 1,500,000 gallons required to fill the lake with fresh running water. A pump house was constructed along with two washrooms and change facilities.

The Kiwanis Park offers a great place to have family reunions, a family picnic day, sports or team events, birthday parties or just a great day enjoying its huge, wading pool type circular swimming hole.
